Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is back, folks! It’s remastered! And yeah, it’s hitting PC and console, looking all spruced up and fancy from Bethesda’s 2006 version. Just when you’re about to shout “stop right there, criminal scum!”, bam—VR players are diving in. What’s up with that?
So, here’s the big shake-up. Bethesda’s like, “let’s chuck Gamebryo” (the old engine) and go all Unreal Engine 5 on this thing. Now, we’ve got way cooler textures, character animations, and lighting. Plus, modders, rejoice! The floodgates are open thanks to ‘Praydog’s UEVR plugin. I’m not saying this is a game-changer, but it’s kinda huge.
Speaking of UEVR, it’s packed, I tell ya—6DOF head movement, full stereoscopic 3D, a GUI to make things easier, OpenXR runtime support, plus motion controller support. But wait, there’s more! You gotta fiddle with those settings to get a mod profile that actually behaves. Not easy peasy, eh? But here’s where ‘LunchAndVR’ comes in, blazing a trail with some epic tinkering magic right now.
I mean, you gotta check the gameplay video below. It’s early doors, sure, but watching LunchAndVR slug it out with rats and zombies—pretty promising stuff. But hey, it’s not all rainbows—these are still early tests, no full 6DOF profiles yet, and those pesky motion controls? Yup, some crashing issues.
Still, those dungeons, phew. The lighting is dynamic (I wanna live there), though outdoors needs a boost. Anyway, it’s on a beast of a rig—medium graphics, DLSS on, Quest 3 with Virtual Desktop’s VDXR set to ‘Ultra’.
Oh, the nuts and bolts! LunchAndVR’s rig is running at 72hz refresh, with an Nvidia RTX 4090, Intel Core i9-13900 CPU, and 64GB RAM. Yeah, it’s beefy.
Wanna jump into Oblivion VR now? You kinda can! Download Praydog’s UEVR mod, maybe snag a couple of test profiles. LunchAndVR’s shared a 6DOF profile by ‘Keyser’ for VR performance tweaks (grab it on Google Drive), and a 3DOF one by ‘Pande4360’ that also tweaks performance (yup, Google Drive again).
Heads up, you need the original Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on PC. Good news, it’ll play nice with the Steam version and Xbox’s PC Game Pass too. Get going!
