I saw this image of what might be The Sims 5, and you’d think EA is on it, right? Wrong. Nope, they’re sticking with Sims 4 for now, and oh, they’re cooking up something called Project Rene. It’s not The Sims 5, but a new thing, a free-to-play multiplayer thing. Crazy, right?
Laura Miele, the big boss over at EA, was chatting with Variety – not sure why I always find interviews in Variety oddly satisfying – and she talked about why starting fresh with a Sims 5 doesn’t make sense. She’s got a point, though. Imagine starting all over again after spending, like, two grand on Sims 4 add-ons. Yikes! Who even has that kind of money? I mean, I love customizing stuff, but that’s a lot.
Instead, they’ll just keep those new Sims 4 packs rolling out. Meanwhile, Project Rene is cooking in the background, with this heavy multiplayer vibe. Oh, and technology upgrades, yada yada. It’s all about enhancing the core and multiplayer play. Maybe there’ll even be some mobile version? That’s what I heard. Who knows, could be those cozy games everyone’s into, too. Anyway — wait, no — what was I saying?
Not much to see on this “Project Rene,” unless you’re one of those sneaky playtesters spilling all the beans online. Apparently, it’s got this Parisian flair, like chic cafes and all that. Picture wandering streets in France but, you know, digital. Sounds kinda fun.
And there’s drama happening on the movie front too. Sims movie! Can you even imagine? Amazon MGM Studios and Margot Robbie’s company are on board. There’s no trailer yet, but fingers crossed, it’s not as awkward as I’m picturing. It’s meant to be interactive and linear at the same time. Like, what does that even mean? Maybe something like those books where you choose your own adventure. I used to love those.
Believe it or not, EA’s all about this interactive buzz. They even did a Simlish music video – FKA Twigs and all. I didn’t even know Simlish could be a thing outside the game. Plus, there’s some fan fiction contest going on. Maybe I should dust off my writing skills and give it a go. But then again, I’d probably get sidetracked.
Anyway, EA’s on this whole vibe of staying connected and interactive, and who knows where it’ll take them. Or us. Seriously, though, gaming world, right?
