Alright, so last night, like the rest of the planet (feels like it, anyway), I sat down to dive into this Borderlands 4 State of Play. It’s like, boom, info overload. The vibe? Totally giving Destiny 3, not that I mentally signed up for that or anything. But hey, hats off to them for shaking things up.
Okay, so let’s unwrap this. Borderlands, right? It’s this blend of pure, chaotic FPS bliss. Shooter? Looter? Schlooter? Call it what you will, but it’s this crazy mix of guns doing bizarre things. Remember the original? Even then, it just sort of pulled you in. It was classic. Now, I get that some people are in it for the laughs, the wacky jokes, Claptrap being… well, Claptrap, right? But, let’s be real, not everyone’s vibing with that humor. For the some, it’s a skip. So now, Gearbox is like, “Let’s change things up.” And man, they really went for it.
The humor dialed down, thank goodness. Honestly, I could count the jokes on, like, one hand. A quick quip here, a goofy enemy name there, and done. I could’ve sworn there’d be some cringey ‘Sigma’ joke plopped in, like bingo. But now? Who knows! It feels like a fresh air gust or something.
Oh, and the look of it now – somehow still ridiculous but toned down a notch? Less cartoon explosion. Kind of serious but still nuts. It’s morphing, and I didn’t see that one coming. World events, those big bad boss settings? Yeah, that’s a familiar territory from elsewhere. Vaults as these massive dungeon-like things instead of just loot-infested caves? Sign me up. And don’t even get me started on the futuristic gizmos – summoning vehicles, GPS drones guiding you to quests? Destiny 2 vibes. I know, wild, right?
Some alternative reality might’ve called this a dumb move. Bungie’s off on another tangent with Marathon, while Destiny 2’s kind of, meh dealing with some peace updates. You’d think with how they’ve been stripping content and kind of making new players gnaw at the bit and such, resources getting tight. Not great, right?
Oh, Marathon though, is apparently, hmm, not the hot commodity either, according to early birds. Before last night you could probably say Borderlands 4 jumping in the ring was sneaky planning. Now? It feels more like a nicety. I mean, Borderlands 4 versus Marathon? LOL, no contest.
I’m just here, swirling all this in my head, and I’m telling you, this fresh direction’s got me all aboard. Will this excitement last? Who knows. But as pre-launch mambo goes, they’ve definitely got eyeballs shifting back to the series. Solid move there!
