Recently, AMD’s upcoming Zen 5-based Threadripper "Shimada Peak" CPUs were spotted in two configurations—one with 96 cores and another with 16 cores—at the NBD.ltd shipping outlet. Interestingly, while the logs don’t explicitly mention "Shimada Peak," these are likely the same chips from the earlier leak.
The 16-core Threadripper 9000 processor will boast a 16-core/32-thread setup using dual 8-core CCDs, while the 96-core variant will feature a 96-core/192-thread configuration spread across 12 CCDs. Each CCD is equipped with 32 MB of L3 cache, bringing the total to 384 MB for the 96-core processor—closely mirroring the specs of the Threadripper PRO 7995WX. This model also aligns with its predecessor in terms of TDP, offering 350W, alongside 128 PCIe lanes, and compatibility with the same chipsets. What’s new is the process node and architecture, and speculation is rife that AMD might implement 3D V-Cache for these next-gen Threadripper models.
In addition to the 16-core version, there’s speculation about several other SKUs, including configurations like 24-core/48-thread and 32-core/64-thread, which have yet to surface in any leaks. Both Threadripper 9000 and Pro 9000 series are expected to be released on the TRX50 and WRX90 chipsets, respectively, in 2025. However, the exact launch timeline remains a mystery.
