Total Chaos, the Horror FPS Originating from a Doom 2 Mod, Announces Release Date

Every now and then, a mod stands out so much that it transforms into a new entity altogether. Remember how PUBG and DayZ emerged from the diverse universe of Arma? Similarly, The Forgotten City found its roots in Skyrim. Now, Total Chaos is making waves as a chilling horror FPS, essentially acting as an Unreal Engine 5 reinterpretation of an epic Doom 2 mod. Created by a talented team, including the original mastermind behind the mod, Total Chaos serves up some spine-tingling Silent Hill-style frights mixed with Stalker-like survival elements. Alongside the buzz of a newly released demo for Steam Next Fest, fans can now circle their calendars for its official launch later this year.

Originally debuted in 2018 as a comprehensive conversion mod for Doom 2, Total Chaos has been reimagined into a standalone adventure. The setting is beautifully grim and haunting, offering a world that pulls you into Fort Oasis. Once a buzzing mining town, it has now succumbed to darkness and decay. Equipped with only the eerie companionship of a crackling voice over your radio, your mission is to delve into the mines and the surrounding structures to unveil the hidden truths.

Despite its Doom lineage, this isn’t your typical chaotic shooter. While it remains an FPS, you’ll find that weapons and ammo are rare treasures, encouraging you to rely on melee combat. Strategy is key; you’ll need to be smart and resourceful with what you scavenger from Fort Oasis to fashion makeshift weaponry. But remember, an inventory weight system is in play, meaning you can’t burden yourself with endless supplies or weaponry.

For those eager to feel fully immersed in its spooky settings, the game is also launching with a VR version. Interestingly, while Total Chaos once had a wide-open 2025 release window, that has now been refined. Both the game and its VR version are set to drop on Steam come Thursday, July 24.

Trigger Happy Interactive, the studio behind this endeavor, has some post-launch plans too. They’re teasing a paid DLC named Epilogue, which promises an expanded storyline, untouched locations, and an unprecedented tenth chapter.
