Skyblivion Team Shares Thoughts on Alleged Official Oblivion Remake

The team behind Skyblivion, the ambitious mod project for Skyrim, remains unfazed by whispers of an official Oblivion remake. They’ve confidently stated that such rumors don’t impact their progress or plans. Skyblivion, aiming to breathe new life into Oblivion using Skyrim’s framework, is slated for release in 2025.

For those unfamiliar, Skyblivion began its journey back in 2012, originally as a project to import Oblivion into Skyrim. Over the years, it has grown into a full-fledged remake effort. Despite the buzz about a potential official Elder Scrolls 4 remake getting louder over the past year, Skyblivion’s team isn’t letting it distract them.

In a revealing chat, Kyle ‘Rebelzize’ Rebel, who leads the Skyblivion project, shared his thoughts on these persistent rumors. Speaking to VG247, Rebel expressed that the team’s focus wouldn’t waver regardless of whether there’s truth to the buzz. “The buzz doesn’t really touch us,” Rebel noted. Skyblivion isn’t in it for monetary gain, so even an official remake would only add interest to their project. And should those whispers prove false, Skyblivion will be the go-to revival for fans eager to dive back into Oblivion. Rebel mentioned that reaching a launch-worthy state with Skyblivion felt almost miraculous, given the project’s past challenges.

Earlier updates from the Skyblivion team have shown that they’re inching closer to completion. They’ve tackled vast landscape work, interiors, quests, and complex 3D modeling. While some fine-tuning remains, the community’s hopes are high for a playable version soon.

Meanwhile, speculation about an official Oblivion remake persists, with some recent rumors suggesting a release as early as June 2025. Whispers hint at gameplay improvements, including a combat system reminiscent of Soulslike games, although not turning the game wholly into one.
