Whoa, so here’s this thing. GPD dropped hints about this crazy AMD Strix Halo handheld back in July—that was during some expo in Shanghai, ChinaJoy or something. So, now the cat’s out of the bag and folks in China are getting their hands on it. One dude, Jobs_Bao, was all over Bilibili showing off his tests with Cinebench R23 and Time Spy. I’ve never been super into numbers, but apparently, this handheld scored 30,495 on some benchmark, which is like desktop Intel Core i9-13900HX territory. Impressive or what?
And get this—while cranking full blast, the CPU was like an oven at 80.3 degrees Celsius, but somehow the vents on top only hit 45 degrees. Magic? Nah, just engineering, I guess. Fans roaring at 95dB though. Hope you’re into loud gaming sessions.
Graphics-wise, it hit 9,680 on Time Spy, which is just shy of some RTX 4060 wizardry. But wait, there’s more (or less)! GPD decided to cap the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 at 70 watts—like, talk about keeping the beast on a leash. Yeah, so it’s not pulling the full 120-watt potential, but hey, Ultra settings at 1080p is still rocking, right? Some other creator, PureDIY, did a thing with Black Myth: Wukong and got over 80 FPS. Sweet!
Now, onto what really caught my eye—the battery. Basically, it’s a 5,170mAh chunk that kinda sticks out from the back. Heavy though, at 340 grams. I mean, it’s cool ’cause you can swap it out real quick while on a subway or whatever. Folks were surprised by this design. But hey, trade-offs!
There are two flavors of the GPD Win 5 on the menu—one with a powerhouse AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 and all the fancy graphics and another more stripped-down version. No word on pricing yet, which is a bummer, but there it is.
Anyway, if you’re into tech updates and stuff, gotta check Tom’s Hardware on Google News. Just saying.
