The team at The Binary Mill, an indie XR studio, has revealed that their space-themed mining adventure, Into Black (2024), is on its way to the PSVR 2. Fans of Deep Rock Galactic will be thrilled to hear that the game is breaking free from its Quest-only availability.
Into Black first made its debut on the Quest back in October. The game, which can be played solo or with up to four players, takes you on a journey of collecting resources, upgrading your gear, and maintaining your ship. Across more than 20 levels with diverse environments, players face a variety of challenges as they gather the necessary components to escape a perilous alien planet.
The PSVR 2 release is ramping things up with the addition of a new ‘Singularity’ mode. This is a player-versus-player-versus-environment setup where you compete with up to 11 others online. “You’ll find yourself forming precarious partnerships as you navigate through a maze that gets tighter by the minute,” says the team behind the game. “But be careful—hoard too much loot, and it might just cost you your exit.”
Interestingly, the PSVR 2 version doesn’t just stop there; it’s set to be revamped for the platform. We’re talking about a visual makeover with remastered scenes, enhanced lighting including dynamic effects and shadows, HDR capabilities, and eye-tracked foveated rendering. On top of that, the gameplay experience will be enriched with more sophisticated haptics made possible by PS Sense’s adaptive triggers and the PSVR 2’s headset rumble technology.
As it stands, there’s still no confirmation whether players on PSVR 2 will be able to play cross-platform with those on Quest. We’ve reached out to The Binary Mill for more details on this.
Although we’re eagerly awaiting a trailer that showcases the new upgrades for PSVR 2, the studio has shared a few images and gifs to whet our appetite. As for when you can get your hands on the PSVR 2 version, a specific release date hasn’t been set, but The Binary Mill assures us it will be “soon.” In the meantime, you can add Into Black to your wishlist on the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2.
