Wow, okay, so there’s this thing where everybody and their grandma seems to love VR shooters, right? And Counter-Strike? It’s like, THE game. Remember those late-night gaming sessions? Yeah, that’s coming to VR, and it’s thanks to these modding wizards called Team Beef. No joke, these folks have already ported all sorts of classics like Tomb Raider and Quake 4—a real trip down memory lane.
So, what’s the deal with Counter-Strike 1.6 on Quest and Pico? Well, it’s unofficial, but hey, I guess they like a challenge. They’re using this engine called Xash3D FWGS. Never heard of it? Neither had I until now, but apparently, it plays nice with Valve’s original Half-Life game engine. Wild, right? And there’s this Velaron client that comes into play too. Got all that? Good.
Anyway, this port they’re working on? Promises cross-play. Whatever that means exactly. But the coolest bit: you can create a server in VR just like that. Snaps fingers. And yeah, they’re pushing for full 6DoF motion controls, which honestly sounds like a party.
For those supporting them on Patreon, the game’s dropping in early access pretty soon. Funny thing, there’s already a teaser out there, but no 6DoF stuff in it yet. I watched it once, and it’s got this vibe like… it’s trying to take you back but in VR form. Can’t explain it. Just feels like clicking with an old friend in a whole new way. So yeah, exciting times.
