Oh boy, did you hear about this? Lyrical Media’s jumping into the indie publishing scene, calling their new thing Lyrical Games. Not the most mind-blowing name—like, who saw that coming, right? Anyway, Blake Rochkind’s leading the charge. If you’re into gaming and business stuff, you might know him from Private Division. That company’s got a whole mix of folks from places like Devolver and Microsoft too. Seems like they snagged a pretty solid crew.
So, they’ve already lined up three big projects. We don’t know much yet, but one’s by the folks behind Homeworld 3—Blackbird Interactive. Can’t lie, I’m curious, but also like, why am I so hyped about something I know zilch about? Classic me.
Blake’s been chatting about their big mission at Lyrical Games. He seems super convinced that developers kinda know best when it comes to their games. Might be onto something there—or maybe he’s just pitching the dream. There’s so much clamoring out there; sometimes I can’t even pick a game from my backlog. Weird times.
Blake said something about this new world needing publishers and developers to click from the get-go, not just on the game stuff but who’s supposed to play it—like, who are we kidding here? It’s like dating but with more coding and less awkward small talk (hopefully).
And get this, they’re aiming for the ‘triple-i’ (indie-but-not-really) space. They’ve got this whole pitch about offering the best deals—maybe it’s true, maybe it’s just marketing magic. Who knows? What really caught my ear was the bit about developers keeping their IP. That can mean a lot on a creative journey. Collaboration and transparency are their big promises. Almost sounds like a manifesto or something.
Anyway—wait, did I already mention this?—they’re coming at it with what they call a holistic approach. I mean, it’s a word, right? At the very least, they’re talking a big game. Maybe it’s the future for indies, or maybe it’s just another wild ride. Time will tell, I guess.
