Wow, so here’s the thing. You ever just find yourself lost in this bizarre world of extreme sports documentaries? No? Just me? Well, anyway—I stumbled upon this wild film, “Touching the Sky”. And guess what? It’s on Quest now. Yep, thanks to Red Bull and Jonathan Griffith Productions. They somehow managed to cram you into the world of wingsuit base jumpers zipping through the European Alps. Oh, and paragliders doing their thing over in the Himalayas in Pakistan. It’s like, mind-blowing, you know?
So, the crew used these custom-built 3D, 360 cameras. I don’t even know what half of that means, but still. You’re right there with Fred Fugen and Vincent Cotte. Like, in-flight with them. In the Italian Dolomites, no less! I have no idea how they didn’t just get tangled in the gear. Fugen mentioned something about the challenge. Something like, flying with cameras during freefall took, like, mega skill. They had to sync up with drone pilots in a friggin’ helicopter. Imagine that coordination. And, yeah, they didn’t get much practice before doing those acrobatic dives. Talk about diving into the deep end—literally.
Oh, but wait. There’s more. Aaron Durogati and Matthias Weger paragliding across the Himalayas. Now, that’s next-level stuff. Pakistan’s mountains are no joke. Apparently, the thermals there are on a whole different planet compared to the Alps. Durogati said something like, if things go south there, you’re on your own. No rescue helicopters swooping in. Pretty hardcore if you ask me.
And you can watch all this for free on Meta Quest TV. But here’s the catch—it’s exclusive to Quest 2 and up. Go figure. They also dropped a behind-the-scenes bit, kind of like a sneak peek into how they pulled off filming this madness. Thirty minutes of raw, unfiltered chaos.
Anyway, it’s a real trip, this documentary. Makes you feel small in the grand scheme of things. Or maybe just me, again? Who knows. Just, you know, go check it out.
