In a surprising development, Warner Bros has reportedly pulled the plug on a planned expansion for Hogwarts Legacy. According to Bloomberg, the expansion was supposed to launch alongside a Definitive Edition of the popular Harry Potter-themed action RPG, bringing fresh storylines to eager fans.
The decision to cancel came down to the belief that the expansion didn’t pack enough content to justify the price tag it was intended to carry. Avalanche Software, the original creators of Hogwarts Legacy, were working on this project with Rocksteady. Interestingly, Avalanche is also rumored to be busy developing a sequel to the beloved game.
In related news, Rocksteady has faced some challenges, recently executing layoffs after announcing its plans to end support for 2024’s Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League. Warner Bros has also been navigating rough waters; last year, the company acknowledged that its gaming division was “substantially underperforming.” Adding to the challenges, they wrote off a staggering $200 million related to Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League at that time. The wave of restructuring included shutting down three studios, one of which was Monolith, and witnessing the departure of their long-standing leader, David Haddad.
