Okay, so bear with me here because the 2025 WNBA season is kicking off. And guess what? Meta’s jumping back in with streaming all these cool games right on the Quest. Yeah, it’s happening on the Xtadium app and also in the Horizon Worlds NBA Arena. Crazy, right?
So, here’s the scoop: 20 live games are on the lineup for Quest users. Not just your regular games, but five of them are in 180-degree video. It’s supposed to be immersive. Whatever that truly means. I think it might make you feel like you’re there—like, part of the action. Not just clicking through screens.
Now, let’s talk about Xtadium. It’s one of those US-only apps. That’s kinda limiting, I know. But it’s got all the live stuff and the on-demand games too. Plus, you can have these private virtual watch parties. Nice for those of us who’re anti-social. Yet, they throw in public watch parties too—find those in the NBA Arena. All this, just sitting there on Horizon Worlds. And can you imagine? It’s free.
And starting May 27th—right, mark your calendar—NBA Arena brings WNBA merch for your avatars. Yeah, you can go on a shopping spree in the VR zone. Who’d have thought virtual shopping was a thing?
Here’s the catch: geo-restrictions. They’re a bit of a downer. So if you’re chilling near where the actual games are, you might hit a blackout wall. I guess local folks are expected to go see it live or something.
Let’s roll through some dates too, because why not?
Okay, May 18, Minnesota Lynx vs. Los Angeles Sparks at 3:00 pm PT. Seems like a good matchup. Following up on May 22, we got New York Liberty taking on Chicago Sky, tipping off at 5:00 pm PT.
And the immersive stuff? First one on May 27, Chicago Sky vs. Phoenix Mercury, kicking off at 7:00 pm PT. Fingers crossed it feels more real than odd Silicon Valley folk hyped it up to be.
June’s bringing the Golden State Valkyries against Los Angeles Sparks on the 9th at 7:00 pm PT. I swear, Valkyries sound mighty. And don’t forget the immersive Las Vegas Aces vs. Minnesota Lynx showdown on June 17 at 5:00 pm PT. That one’s intriguing—at least for me.
Fast forward through June, July, and August with more games. You’ll see favorites like Atlanta Dream, Dallas Wings, and Seattle Storm all clashing. So many matchups, I can’t keep up.
September’s got a couple more immersive games, like Dallas Wings at Golden State Valkyries on the 4th. And it wraps on September 10, when Atlanta Dream faces Connecticut Sun. It’ll be a chill end to the gantlet of games, hopefully.
Not sure why I’m excited. Maybe it’s the mix of virtual tech and old-school basketball. Anyway, I might tune in, or get distracted by a cat video. Who can tell?
