I stumbled upon this wild creation the other day, not sure how I got there — one rabbit hole to another, you know? Anyway, some tech wizard out in China, known as Qingchen DIY, cobbled together this beastly handheld gaming device. Seriously, it’s huge! We’re talking a 12.5-inch screen blasting out 4K visuals. Why? Who knows. But it’s powered by an Intel Core i9-14900HX CPU, which is basically like stuffing a jet engine into a go-kart. Oh, and it’s got an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU. Overkill much?
AMD is usually the king of the tiny gaming rigs, like those cool Asus ROG Ally X and Steam Deck OLEDs. Intel and Nvidia — the “Blue and Green teams” — have tried jumping in before, but not quite like this. It’s almost like someone was curious about what would happen if you combined the two. Kinda makes you go, hmmm, right?
So, the video on Bilibili shows this massive setup squeezed into a handheld. Crafty work on a Tongfang chassis, which, fun fact, is sort of everywhere but behind the scenes. These guys do stuff for brands like PC Specialist and Maingear, which maybe you’ve heard of, or maybe not. I digress.
Anyway, back to this portable Hulk — it’s got an i9-14900HX packed with crazy 8 P-cores and 16 E-cores dealing with the heavy lifting. Plus, it’s got the RTX 4090 GPU rocking those outrageous 9,728 CUDA cores (I mean, how many does one need, right?). The performance is nuts, on par with big boys like the MSI Titan 18 HX. But this handheld is somehow less intimidating, despite its power.
And there’s the matter of keeping all this heat in check. Apparently, it can stay under 72°C running high-demand games like God of War in 4K. There’s this massive thermal challenge here, yet it seems to hold up. Kudos to DIY magic!
Also, it comes with 64GB of RAM and dual 2TB SSDs — upgradable, because why not? But hey, the battery won’t last long; it’s a 50Wh one. Better keep those power outlets close.
We’re probably a bit away from seeing something official from Intel and Nvidia in this space. Rumors have it Nvidia’s cooking up more adventures with SoCs packed with Arm cores. But AMD’s not going to sit still, that’s for sure.
Who knows where this tech race is heading, but it’s definitely a thrill to watch.
