Subnautica 2 is making waves once more, with the team at Unknown Worlds releasing their initial developer vlog. They’re inviting fans to dive into the game’s Discord community and anticipate its arrival in Early Access on Steam. In this first look, the developers unveil a sneak peek at gameplay elements, new creatures, and the exciting addition of co-op play.
In the vlog, design lead Anthony Gallegos introduces us to what’s being called the “road to Early Access.” This video serves as our inaugural glimpse into Subnautica 2’s gameplay, following its announcement during the last Xbox Partner Showcase, where a release window of 2025 was revealed.
The video features some notable moments, like a new vehicle slicing through the water, brief co-op gameplay scenes, the development of new biomes, and an early look at ocean creatures that promise to send shivers down your spine. While much of what we see is still in the development phase, it’s a fascinating start for a new game. Despite the old adage warning against seeing how the sausage is made, this close-up look will likely thrill any video game enthusiast eagerly awaiting launch day.
Subnautica 2 clearly has a legacy to uphold. The original game won over many fans with its fresh take on the open-world survival genre, thanks to its oceanic theme and distinct aesthetic. Subnautica 2 appears to build on this, offering a polished new look and an array of additional features for players to explore, which is just what you’d hope for in a sequel.
