Yuji Horii, right? That guy can’t keep a secret to save his life. Seriously, it’s like he’s got some kind of superpower for spilling the beans, especially when it comes to Chrono Trigger’s 30th anniversary. Could be a remake on the way? Well, buckle up, folks, ’cause here’s what went down.
Picture this: a comic convention in Napoli, Italy. You’ve got our man Yuji on stage, chatting away. Suddenly, he drops a hint—like, a big one—about a Chrono Trigger remake. I swear, the room went nuts. The panel host tried to get the scoop, and what does Yuji do? Covers his mouth like he’s just tasted something sour. The translator jumps in with a casual “you heard nothing,” and bam, the crowd’s on their feet clapping like it’s the finale of a fireworks show.
Now, Yuji’s no stranger to this kind of thing. Back in July 2015, he blabbed about some stuff too. Remember when he confirmed those Dragon Quest localizations? The 3DS versions of VII and VIII? Yeah, VII had already been out in Japan for ages, and here he comes spilling it. Oh, and don’t forget when he said Dragon Quest XI was headed to the “NX”—you know, before everyone knew it was the Switch. Talk about a plot twist.
Anyway, so March 11 rolls around. Chrono Trigger hits the big 3-0 in Japan. Square Enix pops up saying, “Yeah, there’s more to celebrate,” but, of course, no juicy details. Classic move.
So, are we getting a Chrono Trigger remake or not? No idea. Yuji might give it away next time if we’re lucky. Until then, it’s all just a waiting game.
