Oh man, is it Wednesday? Time’s flying, and PlayStation’s got some new peeps on deck. Yeah, they’ve got a fresh studio to brag about, called teamLFG. Sounds like they’re not planning to sink their teeth into you—only execs do that, right? Anyway, these folks are working on some multiplayer madness inspired by… frog-type games? No clue what that means, but I’m curious.
Sony’s top dog, Hermen Hulst, rolled out this news on a PS Blog post. Picture him playing proud papa here. But, just a heads-up: if you can’t swim in the wild seas of live service games, well, good luck, bud.
teamLFG—no, not the sweary version you probably thought of—is holed up in Bellevue, Washington. They’re a mash-up of newbies and veterans from Destiny, Halo, and League of Legends. And yeah, they spun this out from Bungie. Quite the pedigree, huh?
They’re all about creating games with kick-ass action, killer gameplay, and deep social connections. Translation: places where you can find your people and chill. Sounds wholesome enough.
So, PlayStation’s live-service ambitions are sailing full steam ahead. teamLFG’s first gig? A live-service action game—an “incubation project” they mentioned once… during talks about Bungie’s layoffs. Oof.
This game’s pulling from a grab bag of influences: fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and frog-type games. Players drop into a whimsical, comedic world in a brand-new mythic sci-fi universe. Can’t wait to see more.
I gotta wonder—what even are frog-type games? Not just Frogger-style games, I guess. But hey, picture this: a mash-up of Tekken, Mario, Dota 2… maybe sprinkle in some Crazy Frog. Yeah, that wild viral critter from ages ago. Maybe it’s what they mean by ‘frog-type’?
Okay, that’s a stretch, but early playtests are definitely on teamLFG’s agenda. Gathering feedback and all that jazz.
So, what do you think? Is Sony diving into a Crazy Frog-esque blend of Overwatch and Fortnite what we need? I’m itching to see what kind of chaos teamLFG brews up. Drop your thoughts down below.
