Microsoft is starting the new year with some exciting updates for Microsoft Rewards members, including significant changes to Xbox Game Pass Quests expected in 2025. Last year, we saw a host of modifications to Microsoft Rewards, many of which didn’t quite hit the mark, like the diminished “Weekly Console Bonus” in the UK. However, today’s news seems promising.
In 2025, PC Game Pass members will have something to look forward to as Xbox Game Pass Quests broaden their horizons, now encompassing PC Game Pass. Both console and PC gaming enthusiasts can expect the return of weekly gaming streaks. But note this: Xbox Game Pass Quests will only be available for those aged 18 and over. Starting this week, younger players won’t be able to participate, while those above 18 can anticipate “new ways” to gather Microsoft Rewards points, akin to the approach taken with Australian players last year. This expansion means more gamers can earn points as the Quests become part of the PC Game Pass subscription.
Microsoft is also revamping its reward system by reintroducing weekly streaks. These involve playing console games for at least 15 minutes a day, and now a similar setup for PC games is coming. A daily quest, encouraging players to engage with a Game Pass title for at least 15 minutes daily, is also on the horizon.
From now on, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members must be at least 18 to enjoy Game Pass Quests. As per Xbox Wire, this update aligns with Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to promoting positive, age-appropriate gaming environments, limiting points earned through play activities to those over 18. Consequently, younger players will no longer have access to the Rewards Hub on Xbox consoles, PC, or mobile apps.
Existing rewards and previously earned points won’t be affected by this update. Going forward, players under 18 can still earn Microsoft Rewards points through parent-approved purchases of eligible items from the Microsoft Store, supported searches on Microsoft Bing, and other non-gaming activities such as completing the Microsoft Rewards Daily Set.
Additionally, Xbox Game Pass Quests will extend their reach, becoming available to Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers in Japan, along with other supported regions. As for the Console Weekly Bonus, it now provides 150 points, while Daily PC Play Quests offer 10 points.
These updates coincide with the introduction of new Quests, effective January 7. A fresh Daily Play Quest will grant 10 points for engaging with any Game Pass game for at least 15 minutes. Monthly tasks, like the Monthly 4-Pack and 8-Pack Quests, challenge you to play up to eight different Xbox Game Pass titles for 15 minutes each every month.
Back by popular demand, Weekly Streaks are making a comeback for console players. Gamers are invited to play console games at least five days a week. Microsoft emphasizes the more frequent your play, the more points you gather. An added challenge is to maintain your streak weekly to unlock higher point multipliers—achieving a 2-week streak doubles the base points, a 3-week streak triples them, and anything beyond four weeks quadruples the base points.
Concurrently, a new PC Weekly Bonus is being introduced, awarding 150 points for playing at least 15 minutes for five days or more. The PC streak, however, doesn’t seem to include multipliers, remaining at 150 points per week.
Microsoft stresses that a minimum playtime is required to earn points through gameplay. Currently, Quests are restricted to titles within the Game Pass catalog and don’t include PC games necessitating third-party launchers or played on platforms like Battle.net.
This announcement trails a significant issue from last week, where several Microsoft Rewards members faced unexpected account bans.
