If you’ve ever thought about offing someone with a leaf—or maybe cuddling up with a wolf pup—now’s your weirdly specific dream come true. Soulframe’s early version is out there, but just for a blink.
So, there’s this wild game thing going on called Soulframe: Preludes. If you managed to scribble your name on the list over at the Soulframe site, congrats—you’re in, or will be, as part of this TennoCon shindig. Before now, it was all secret invitations and precious, elusive game keys. Now? You sign up, you dive in. But just during this TennoCon weekend bash. Midnight EDT, July 20, the gates close. Tick-tock, right?
“Everyone’s gonna have at it with our game, no excuses,” said Sarah Asselin, one of the big voices over at Soulframe. Sounded confident, too. “Well, unless stuff crashes. But we’re mostly sure it won’t.”
What’s Soulframe? Giant fantasy world, kinda like Warframe’s cousin but all dressed up in mystical robes. Very nature-loving, except there’s some nasty, twisted business underneath. They showcased some pretty eye-popping gameplay during TennoCon. Felt intense, and oddly comfy at the same time.
They aired this bit about a quest—Fable of Bromius, it’s called. Poor bear gets all tangled up in evil magic. The gameplay’s a blend of range and magic—your character, the Envoy, throwing spells like nobody’s business and switching up to bows or knives in fights. Transforming into butterflies for stealth? Sounds almost poetic. And then, bam, big-headed decoy magic.
I could spill the beans on how it wraps up, but nah. Let’s just say, if you think it’s your typical sword-swinging fantasy game, buckle up. There’s a twisty path ahead, and if you’ve played any of Digital Extremes’ stuff, you know they bring the unexpected, making you itch to see what they’ve cooked up.
They keep building this Soulframe universe, sprinkling new factions and, oh yeah, wolves too. Earlier this year, they rolled out this thing called “The Shewolf Snared,” letting you save a wolf pup. Best part? It’ll tag along with you through the game. And yeah, no account nuking—which means your furry friend sticks around for the long haul.
Anyway… games, wolves, magic leaves. Who knew, huh?
